As a designer I am often asked "What are
the characteristics of the perfect
So here are some guidelines.
Firstly the wedding band should enhance and
not overpower the engagement ring.
The wedding band should be the same gold
carat as the engagement ring to minimize wear.
Any stones in the wedding band should be the
same colour and clarity as in the existing ring.
The wedding band should be the same
thickness and profile as the engagement ring so
it gives it a tailored look.
Split wedding bands are now very popular. This
is where there are two rings that fit either side of
the engagement ring. They can be given together
for the wedding or one at the wedding and the
second as an eternity ring after one year.
We prefer to make our rings solid, not hollowed
out. Our comfort fit makes our rings easier
If the engagement and wedding bands are to
be always worn together we solder them
together at the base. This stops them from
slipping around and reduces wear. They can be
Ladies' weddings bands can also be made to
match the gent's band.
It is great to further personalise the fitted band
with inscriptions. Sometimes the bride and
groom compose their messages secretly and
surprise each other on the big day!

The Perfect Fit
Current job/title: Marketing consultancy
business - Finesse Marketing
Age: 45 (and OK about that)
My first job: Mowing a huge lawn on a hill for a
gorgeous Greek couple - $6 for five hours work
in the blistering summer heat of North Coast
NSW and then Sunday mornings in their
general store -I loved it!
The place I would most like to visit: Italy -- in
fact, my dream is to live there for five years and
write a book. I've recently learned that my
grandmother's dad may have been Italian,
which explains my strong feelings of
connection to the country and its culture.
The car I drive: Landcruiser due to my family
lifestyle, not an expression of personality.
My favourite food: Anything Italian
/Mediterranean, especially seafood. Oh, and I
just love a good, strong skinny flat white.
My favourite word: Today - 'awesome'.
Tomorrow I think it may be 'inspirational'
My favourite song: I just love anything by
Michael Buble, but recently I've discovered
Melody Gardot with Baby I'm a Fool - she is
My favourite movie: Chocolate -- a little
mystery, a lot of beauty. Being a movie buff,
there are so many more...
My favourite television show: Packed to the
Rafters (how I feel sometimes in our home) and
a close second, Desperate Housewives.
The person who most inspires me: Four
people in fact -- my children. They give me the
gift of their enthusiasm, openness and love
every single day.
My best trait: 'Commitment' to whatever I am
doing -- be it family, work or community projects.
My worst trait: The inability sometimes to
understand others needs -- I need to
learn to be more generous and
understanding of others' life
pressures and their coping
mechanisms. I say yes to things/
projects and then make them work.
Not everyone operates this way.
What I would like to change:
Through my involvement with
community groups' Matthew Stanley
Foundation and recently Chick's Chat, I
see this as giving access to making a
difference to the youth of our
community. Our youth can be so
amazing and yet so self destructive. I am
inspired working with amazing adults
and teenagers in working towards
transformation of the culture that
supports pointless violence in our
world. I am really committed to working
in the community and am inspired by the
generosity of many.
Where I like to holiday: We always go to
Yamba for Christmas holidays and it's been
fabulous -- anywhere with my family really.
How I like to relax: A good sauvignon blanc
and sumptuous olives with great friends and
family or curling up with a good book on the
beach in summer (as long as my wonderful
husband and children are with me).
What saying would I like to be remembered
for? "Live your life so that your children can tell
their children that you not only stood for
something wonderful -- you acted on it!"
