Recently I asked each member of my team
to choose a stone from my personal
collection and then design a piece of
jewellery art based on that stone. The most
outstanding designs were made for the Wish
List. The Wish List is a catalogue of our latest
jewellery art range. The current Wish List is
available in our studio now.
I asked Natalie Preston, one of our award-
winning jewellery designers, to share the story of
her piece which she designed and made.
"I was utterly inspired by this pink tourmaline,
its depth and colour intensity drew me in. The
tourmaline was beautifully cut and its sheer size
(7.25ct) allowed a lot of freedom in the design. Its
trilliant (triangular) shape lent itself to an
asymmetrical design. I positioned the stone
across the finger with a minimal setting to
highlight its sharp, clean lines. To further
complement the stone, I chose a flowing band
inspired by the floral designs of the Art Nouveau
movement. To produce the soft undulations I was
aiming for,the band had to be carved from wax in
two parts and cast in 18ct white gold. The
opposing shoulders were pave-set with a fine
grade of white diamonds (1.32ct). The bearing of
the setting was scalloped with a different design
on each of the three sides and set with black
diamonds (0.17 ct)."
"To achieve the outstanding quality of the
finished product, the correct order of assembly
was essential. The stone setting of the diamonds
in each of the elements was done first as the
diamonds can withstand the heat needed to
solder all the components together. Each gold
piece was then finely polished and assembled.
Lastly the crowning element, the magnificent
central tourmaline was set."
"It was an incredibly inspiring piece of
jewellery to make and I'm thrilled with results. It
would be perfect as a beautiful cocktail ring or
even as a bold statement engagement ring. I
hope the future wearer enjoys it as much as I've
enjoyed creating it. " Natalie Preston
