Two Redland women have been inspired to
take on the tough business world of
cosmetics after becoming sick and tired of
their tradesmen husbands arriving home all hot,

Lisa Rose and Melinda Stevenson have thrown
everything into establishing their own brand and
range of men's skin products -- Stella+Marco.
The road has been a tough one, but Lisa and
Melinda have settled on a simple formula -- both
in their product range and business plan -- which
is beginning to show some light to reward their
last four years of hard work.
The simplicity of their product has become the
foundation of Stella+Marco.
After much research they have "stripped
naked" the cosmetic range, removing harmful
chemicals and thus reducing the number of
Both Lisa and Melinda have used their
knowledge and research to keep the ingredients
in their products as organic as possible, and using
"clean"preservative systems to extend shelf life to
two to three years.
Working hand in hand with cosmetic chemists
in Sydney, Lisa and Melinda have developed their
own range of men's skin products -- face wash, sun
gel, deep pore cleanser, moisturiser, facial mist, lip
balm, after shave balm, foot spray, shaving gel,
and soap with plans in the pipeline to expand the
Initially, the range has been sold through
specialist outlets in Australia and New Zealand,

Now, Lisa and Melinda are in negotiations with
a major supermarket chain and a large pharmacy
group, which if plans go accordingly will launch
Stella+Marco onto the national stage.
Both parents, Lisa, who has studied business,
and Melinda, who is a make-up artist by trade, met
at day care for their children some years ago.
They immediately hit it off and the subject of
smelly tradesmen husbands was often on the
Melinda's husband Matt is a carpenter by trade,
while Lisa's husband Craig is a fitter and turner --
both hands-on professions.
Their day care talk took nine months to get

They discovered there was little on the market
to meet the growing men's interest in taking care
of themselves and their skin, particularly those
who are working outside under the hot sun.
They saw the need to develop a product line to
which men can relate. Simplicity has been the key
-- simple "organic" formulas, easy to understand
product range and attractive but plain
Twelve months of research and development
followed. They established contacts with
cosmetic chemists in Sydney to develop the
products and trials and testing to formulate the
ingredients into marketable products followed.
